What to expect: Situated on a hill in the Village of Oak Creek, about six miles from the center of Sedona, the resort is framed by broad mesas and towering Red Rock buttes. A waterfall sculpture of a Hopi woman stands at the entrance. The earth-toned lobby blends Native American and Western elements, including beautifully crafted pottery and baskets, a kiva-style fireplace, and hand-forged iron chandeliers. The spa/health club and pools adjoin the main building.
Amenity highlights: A waterfall connects the two levels of the Cascades Pool, the resort’s centerpiece. On the lower tier, waters spill from a tall cactus sculpture. Native American–inspired treatments are the specialty of the spa, which also encompasses a health club with a 25-meter lap pool, lighted tennis courts, two gyms, classes such as yoga and aerobics, and locker rooms with spa tubs, steam rooms, and saunas. Guests enjoy preferred tee times at the adjacent Sedona Golf Resort, a championship course with dramatic Red Rock views.
Insider tip: Although less famous than Montezuma Castle National Monument, Tuzigoot National Monument, 36 miles from the hotel, is well worth a visit—and it's a short side trip from the popular Verde Valley Railroad. A paved, quarter-mile trail circles the ruins of a hilltop pueblo inhabited by Sinaguan people between AD 1000 and AD 1400. Visitors can enter a pueblo room and climb to the rooftop, with commanding views of the mesas and the valley.
The Grille at ShadowRock showcases fresh, Southwestern-influenced cuisine. Outdoor dining is available on the patio facing the Red Rocks and mesas. The resort has a two-tier Cascades Pool, a lap pool, and the adults-only Pool at ShadowRock. The first two are open year-round; all three offer spa tubs and view sundecks.
Spa treatments include Shared Journey couples massage, Ancient Sea Salt Glow, and Full Circle customized massage. An optional daily resort fee of $10 per suite covers use of the spa/health club, including lap pool, fitness classes, exercise equipment, tennis courts, and sand volleyball (extra surcharge for spa treatments and tennis racquets). If a guest purchases a spa treatment, the fee is waived for that day.
